Enjoying the mind

Someone, who asks Osho a question, says that he is completely fed up with his mind, he is never in the here and now and never sees anything. He tries everything: he tries meditation, he tries to be aware, but he often feels that he does not feel it.

Osho: “Step 1: Don't try to stop the mind.

Step 2:

Start enjoying the thought process. See the nuances of your thoughts: how they curve, how one thought leads to another, how they become entwined. It is truly a miracle to watch. Even a small thought can take you far and wide and when you look at it you don't see any coherence. A dog starts barking and your thought process is triggered. You forgot the friend. you remember the friend's wife, who was very beautiful, and you go on and on, and then other women… Where you end up, nobody knows. and it started with a barking dog! Just watch and see the associations of thought – how thoughts are connected, linked together.

Take it easy, don't make it hard on yourself. Consciousness will come to you, but it will come indirectly. Becoming aware should not be an effort. That's what you've always done: you're trying to become aware. Then the mind distracts you and you get very angry about it. You feel that this is an ugly mind that is raving all the time. You want to be still and the mind won't allow it. Thus you begin to feel hostile to the mind. That is not good; that is dividing yourself in half. Then you and the mind come into conflict and the friction begins. All friction is suicidal, because your energy is wasted unnecessarily. We don't have that much energy to lose in a battle with ourselves. The same energy must be used for joy. To fight is to destroy yourself. No need to fight --- love ! All fighting energy must be transformed into love energy. Just enjoy the mind, and soon things will start to change.”
